Project 5

Materials:
Audacity program, student text, words-per-minute chart, microphone
Target group: LRC elementary students

Procedure: Using your reading programs wpm chart, keep track of a student’s fluency and add a little spice to a routine. Once a month have your student use Audacity during his/her reading fluency. Listen to the reading with the student and develop and write down goals based on how they read. Do they need to read more smoothly? Do they need to pause at punctuation marks? Do they read with emphasis? Save the reading and goals to compare to the next month. The next month repeat the above. This time you can have the student listen to his/her past readings and discuss what was improved. Have the goals been achieved or do they need more work?
Assessments: teacher observation, fluency performance
